Get Away From it All – 2016 Winter Retreat Weekend

A bed and breakfast is a great place to get away from it all, so we’re headed back to The Hankerd Inn for our Flygirls Winter Retreat, February 12-14, 2016. A beautiful setting, comfy accommodations, great company, and time for fun & relaxation await you at this year’s event. The Hankerd Inn is located at 10350 Hankerd Rd, Pleasant Lake, MI 49272. Inn Keeper/Owner, Janet Rochefort, is looking forward to hosting us again. Pleasant Lake is located between Lansing and Jackson. Check out their website at www.hankerdinnresort.com. Our retreat includes 2 nights lodging and 5 meals (Friday dinner thru Sunday breakfast). Plan to arrive Friday afternoon and stay thru Sunday morning.

Accommodations include the Barn, which sleeps 18 women. Rooms include 2, 3 or 4 twin beds. It has a kitchen, living room and open work space for our activities. If you’d prefer a private room, there is an additional $40 charge for a room in the Farmhouse. No need to bring bedding or towels, as everything is included. We’ll eat our meals in the Farmhouse. A beautiful renovated demonstration kitchen, located there, accommodates a large audience. Our hostess will cook up some fun prior to dinner on Saturday evening. Bring along your favorite adult beverage and watch and enjoy Jan’s entertaining presentation.

Friday evening Joy will kick off the weekend and teach you how to make a fun ceramic coaster from your favorite (fishy) photo. On Saturday, satisfy your fly fishing soul by taking a beginner or advanced fly tying class. The advanced class will be taught by Nome Buckman and will focus on flies for muskie and pike. There will be a $5 materials fee for Nome’s class. Sheila Bergdoll will get the newcomers to the sport started with a beginner tying class. All materials will be provided. Plan on bringing your own vise and tools — Flygirls can provide beginners with vise/tools if needbe. Bring along your Hatch Guide for Midwest Streams and we will review setting up your spring fly box. Nome will also review some gear tricks for the off-season, including a nifty way to find and repair leaks in your waders.

Clean out your fishing gear this fall and winter and bring along items that you no longer need or want. You can find great bargains at the Garage Sale on Saturday. Jan also will open up her ‘store’ for a little shopping – she has some wonderful treasures there each year. Nome will have a fantastic evening program on muskie fishing in the Great Lakes region. Lastly, we will plan a fundraising raffle after dinner on Saturday evening — this is always a highlight of the retreat. You could win a brand new fly rod!

Cost for the weekend is $165 per person. Reserve your spot at the retreat with a $50 deposit. Joy will send a confirmation and additional information when she receives your deposit. We ask that you also bring an item for the raffle table valued at $15 or more. Questions? contact Joy at joy@spectero.net.
